EDBU is happy to announce that on 14 September, 2012, during this year’s EFSLI AGM in Vienna, the Memorandum of Understanding between EDBU and EFSLI has been signed.
The President of EDBU, Mr. Sergey Sirotkin, has signed the Memorandum in the name of the European Deafblind Union while the incumbent President of the EFSLI Board, Ms. Maya de Wit, signed it in the name of her association. The document was signed before the election of a new Board, as a way to crown Ms. de Wit’s long-time collaboration and efforts for establishing the standards for Deafblind interpreting.
The Vice-President of EDBU, Ms. Sanja Tarczay, was present at the signing as the representative of EDBU, and addressed the attendants of the AGM with a few words stressing the importance of interpreting to the Deafblind.
The next day, on Saturday, 15 September, 2012, at the opening of the EFSLI conference “Be aware! Power and Responsibility in the field of Sign Language Interpreting,” Sanja Tarczay has greeted the participants in the name of EDBU.
With this Memorandum of Understanding the two organisations have crowned the long-time collaboration between the European Deafblind Union and the European Sign Language interpreters. At the efsli AGM a new Board was elected, and there is no doubt that the co-operation between the two associations shall continue to improve.
