EDBU TEAM IS EXCITED TO FORWARD AN IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THE DEAFBLIND MOVEMENT IN EUROPE. JOIN OUR FRIENDS IN THEIR FIGHT FOR THE RIGHTS OF THE DEAFBLIND! BERLIN WELCOMES ALL WHO SUPPORT THE DEAFBLIND MOVEMENT!
BERLIN, GERMANY – OCTOBER, 4th 2013
The first demonstrations of the Deafblind in the world are going to take place in Berlin, Germany.
On the 4th of October, the Deafblind are starting a march for their rights, starting at 12 o’clock at iron balls with chains. This will be visual representation of the isolation and a prison of loneliness without adequate support for the Deafblind. The march will end at 14 o’clock at Potsdamer Platz, where speeches will be held and information about the Deafblind and their requirements will be distributed to the people.
The aim of this demonstrations is to achieve recognition of deafblindness and rights for the Deafblind in Germany. Deafblindness is still treated as a summary of deafness and blindness, which should be changed to unique disability. Only this way the Deafblind will receive the support they need to live independent lives.
The estimated 2500 to 6000 deafblind persons live in Germany without proper technical aids and support. They aren’t even recognized by doctors, public officers and service providers. This is the reason they are organizing a march for raising public awareness.
The organizers of the demonstrations are:
- die Bundesarbeitsgemeinschaft der Taubblinden (BAT)
- der Verein Leben mit Ushersyndrom (LMU)
- der Deutsche Blinden- und Sehbehindertenverband (DBSV)
- die Stiftung Taubblind Leben
