EUROPEAN DAY OF PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES 2016

CRPD IMPLEMENTATION CANNOT BE BUSINESS AS USUAL

This year’s European Day of Persons with Disabilities marks the 10th anniversary of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD). This has been the focus of the 2-day conference organised by the European Commission and EDF on 29-30 November 2016.

“RED AND WHITE CANE” TO BENEFIT DEAFBLIND ACROSS EUROPE

Representatives of the EDbU, Sanja Tarczay, Ph.D (president) and Ms Barbara Verna (EC Board member) and EDbN, Ricard Loped (president) met together during EDPD in Brussels 2016 to announce a joint initiative – “Red and white cane” to benefit Deafblind across Europe – to Ms Emmanuelle Grange (Head of Disability and Inclusion Unit, Directorate – General for Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, European Commission).

SANJA TARCZAY, PH.D., THE PRESIDENT OF THE EDbU AS A PRESENTER AT OHCHR – THE 2016 SOCIAL FORUM TO FOCUS ON DISABILITY AND CRPD+10

The 2016 Social Forum will take place from 3 to 5 October 2016 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. The Social Forum – an annual three-day meeting convened by the Human Rights Council- is a unique space for open and interactive dialogue between civil society actors, representatives of Member States, and intergovernmental organizations. The theme of the 2016 session of the Social Forum will be the promotion and full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms by all persons with disabilities in the context of the tenth anniversary of the adoption of the CRPD. Don’t miss Sanja Tarczay’s presentation on “PANEL 11. Implementation of Agenda 2030 under the CRPD: The Future We Want”

A MEMORABLE DAY FOR CROATIAN DEAFBLIND!

After years of waiting Croatian Sign Language has finally been recognised on July 10th 2015. The Croatian Parliament unanimously approved the final proposal of the Law on the Croatian Sign Language and Other Communication Systems of Deaf and Deafblind Persons which recognised CSL as the language of the linguistic-cultural minority group of the Deaf and Deafblind in Croatia.
